Victorian architecture
(The Sydney Town Hall)

The term Victorian architecture refers collectively to several architectural styles employed predominantly during the middle and late 19th century. The period that it indicates may slightly overlap the actual reign, 20 June 1837 – 22 January 1901, of Queen Victoria. This represents the British and French custom of naming architectural styles for a reigning monarch.

The Sydney Town Hall

The Sydney Town Hall is a landmark sandstone building located in the heart of Sydney. It stands opposite the Queen Victoria Building and alongside St Andrew's Cathedral. Sitting above the busy Town Hall station and between the cinema strip on George Street and the Central Business District, the steps of the Town Hall are a popular meeting place.

The Town Hall was built in the 1880s -- on the site of an old cemetery -- from local Sydney sandstone in the grand Victorian Second Empire style, and has been described as having "lavishly ornamented composition with focal tower and fanciful roofs."

The Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games or the Millennium Games/Games of the New Millennium, officially known as the Games of the XXVII Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event which was celebrated between 15 September and 1 October 2000 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Stadium Australia, currently also known as ANZ Stadium due to naming rights, formerly known as Telstra Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct of Homebush Bay. The stadium, which in Australia is sometimes referred to simply as the "Olympic Stadium", was completed in March 1999 at a cost of A$690 million to host the 2000 Summer Olympics.

The stadium was originally built to temporarily hold 110,000 spectators, making it the largest Olympic Stadium ever built as well as the largest stadium in Australia.

The architect of this stadium is Populous. Laighter the changed wer wade by Bilight hobb sports Architects. Most of the seating is under cover.

The project was inspired by "akubra" which is a typical Australian soft hat. The stadium presents two main tribunes that are covered by a huge roof that is constructed from translucent polycarbonate.

The elegancy of the roof is one of the most pleasant aspects of the stadium. Suspended from a huge arch structure, the roof has a length of 985 feet (300 meters). Notwithstanding its immense dimension, the roof offers a sense of lightness that is accentuated by the translucent material which it is made of.

The stadium integrates remarkably with its environment. Air and natural ventilation are secured by means of spaces that were left empty intentionally. The shape of the roof offers the possibility to reuse rainwater directing it into water reservoirs. At the outside, the four entry towers appear imposingly making the stadium the reference point of the Olympic Village.

This will create ideal conditions for TV presentations and for spectators. The OlympicStadium's design includes state-of-the-art environmental features that make it a showcase of ecological responsibility. Its energy management strategy reduces the use of congenital electric power through measures such as natural lighting, two gas-fived their durability. Significant waste management and neater-saving measures are also in place.

(Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge)

Introduction

What Makes Sydney Architecture Unique?

This theme is interesting for me, because I like painting and I'm interested in architecture.
Also this theme is interesting for the historically minded people, because history is reflected in architecture in the country.
As Sydney was the capital of Olympic Games in 2000, sportsmen would like to know about sports constructions architecture in Sydney.
And of course modern architecture is interesting for the people of Arts.

So, the key questions of this research are:
1.     What is the architecture of the Olympic Games constructions in Sydney?
2.     How is European architecture represented?
3.     What are the symbols of modern architecture in Sydney?
